His music is full of solos, but they’re engineered to serve the song’s narrative arc, not to suspend it. So the subtext is less “jazz is bad” than “my brain isn’t wired for that kind of time.” It’s a cultural boundary marker, delivered with the cranky charm of someone secure enough in his own lane to poke fun at the next one over.
