"I look for people who're passionate, dedicated to the text, and in whom I trust completely"
About this Quote
"Passionate" and "dedicated" are the socially acceptable virtues; "trust completely" is the real demand. Complete trust isn’t romantic here, it’s operational. Film sets and rehearsal rooms are pressure cookers of vulnerability: emotional exposure, physical proximity, power imbalance, endless repetition. Scacchi’s intent is partly protective, partly artistic. She wants collaborators who won’t weaponize intimacy, who won’t treat a scene partner as a prop, who can be relied on to hit the same emotional marks with the same ethical boundaries take after take.
The subtext: talent is negotiable; reliability isn’t. She’s also saying she doesn’t want to direct her colleagues into basic professionalism. If the group is loyal to the text, conflict becomes productive (about choices) rather than personal (about dominance). In a post-#MeToo industry that has had to admit how much "chemistry" can mask coercion, her emphasis on trust reads less like idealism and more like a quietly hard-won standard for doing fearless work safely.
