Faith & Spirit Quote by Jiddu Krishnamurti

"I maintain that Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect"

About this Quote

Krishnamurti drops a philosophical grenade with the calm of someone refusing to sell you a map. “Truth is a pathless land” isn’t a misty metaphor; it’s an attack on spiritual infrastructure itself: the comforting idea that enlightenment is a route with signposts, certified guides, and membership perks. The line works because it denies the reader the one thing most seekers secretly want - permission. If there is no path, then there is no authority who can validate your progress, no institution that can collect your loyalty, no ritual that can substitute for seeing.

The subtext is sharper than the serene phrasing suggests. Religions and sects don’t merely “help” people toward truth; they standardize experience, turning the unknown into a curriculum. Krishnamurti hears the hidden bargain: surrender your uncertainty, and you’ll get belonging. He refuses that trade. “Cannot approach it by any path whatsoever” is deliberately absolutist, a rhetorical scorched-earth move aimed at the loopholes: not my religion, not the “right” sect, not even the more tasteful, modernized version of belief.

Context matters: Krishnamurti famously dissolved the Order of the Star in 1929, rejecting his own messianic branding after being groomed by the Theosophical Society as a world teacher. This sentence is the anti-guru manifesto from a man who knew exactly how gurus are manufactured. Its intent is liberation, but also exposure: the moment you outsource perception to a system, you stop looking. Truth, for him, is not a destination reached by obedience; it’s what remains when obedience is stripped away.
