Parenting & Family Quote by Angie Stone

"I would never disrespect any man, woman, chick, or child out there. We're all the same. What goes around comes around, and karma kicks us all in the butt in the end of the day"

About this Quote

There is a very 2000s R&B practicality to Angie Stone’s moral code here: don’t grandstand, don’t posture, don’t act brand-new. The line isn’t trying to sound saintly; it’s trying to sound survivable. Stone frames respect less as a virtue than as a street-level strategy for moving through an industry (and a world) built on ego, gossip, and score-settling. “I would never disrespect” reads like a boundary she’s had to draw repeatedly, not an abstract principle she arrived at in peace.

The phrasing does a lot of cultural work. The inclusive roll call - “man, woman, chick or child” - mixes formal and colloquial, signaling she’s talking to everybody from the boardroom to the block. “Chick” also betrays the era’s casual sexism, but in her mouth it lands as familiar, not contemptuous: a reminder that respect is negotiated in the language people actually use, not the language they wish they used. “We’re all the same” isn’t utopian; it’s flattening. Fame, money, gender, age - none of it exempts you from consequences.

Then she pulls the lever that makes the whole thing click: karma. In Black popular music, karma often stands in for institutions that don’t protect you and apologies you’ll never get. “Kicks us all in the butt” makes the warning playful, almost maternal, but it’s still a warning: you can win the moment by disrespecting people; you lose the long game because reputation circulates. Stone’s subtext is blunt: in a small world, your behavior comes back with interest.
