This quote by Andy Grove speaks with the truth of a globalized economy. In a world where the market runs as one, staff members must compete with anybody on the planet who can doing the very same job. This suggests that the competitors is much greater than it would remain in a localized market, as there are potentially millions of individuals who could do the same task. Furthermore, much of these individuals are likely to be desperate for work, suggesting that they want to work for lower incomes and longer hours. This can produce a tight spot for employees, as they need to take on a much larger swimming pool of people in order to secure a job.
