Her modernist ear catches the way wartime talk flattens complexity into a single dependable symbol. The subtext is cynical and keen: when violence spreads, we don't become better informed; we become more superstitious about "safe" places. Switzerland functions like a talisman - useful precisely because everyone agrees to believe in it.
