When he points at surgically engineered youth as something you “notice,” he’s admitting how quickly the unnatural becomes legible once you’ve stepped outside the system that normalizes it. “After America” suggests return and recalibration: you come home and realize how aggressively curated American “normal” can be, especially in media-saturated cities where youth reads as employability and beauty reads as credibility.

There’s also a sly class note in “ordinary people.” The joke depends on the idea that not everyone can afford to fight aging that hard. What sounds like relief at natural faces is also a critique of a culture that treats aging as a correctable error - and turns ordinary human features into problems to be solved.
