Daily Inspiration Quote by Marvin Olasky

"Today, unless women gain jobs and athletic scholarships commensurate with their percentage of the population, feminists scream discrimination"

About this Quote

The tell is in the verb: "scream". Olasky isn’t arguing policy so much as policing tone, casting feminism as hysteria before he ever touches the numbers. It’s a classic rhetorical move in culture-war prose: downgrade the speaker, then downgrade the claim. By choosing a word historically used to caricature women as overemotional, he smuggles gendered contempt into what pretends to be a sober objection to quotas.

The sentence builds a straw target out of "commensurate with their percentage of the population", a slippery phrase that blurs two different ideas: equal opportunity versus proportional outcomes. Olasky wants the reader to hear "percentage of the population" and think “mathematical entitlement,” as if any demand for parity is automatically a demand for mandated sameness. That framing makes discrimination claims look frivolous: if equality is defined as perfect symmetry, then any gap can be waved away as inevitable, or recast as evidence of unreasonable activists.

Context matters. Coming from an educator known for socially conservative commentary, the line sits in the long backlash against Title IX-era gains and the expansion of women’s participation in sports and higher ed. The subtext is that institutions have already done enough, and that remaining disparities are either natural, self-chosen, or politically manufactured. The point isn’t to ask whether barriers persist; it’s to delegitimize the very language of discrimination by making it sound like a tantrum. The sentence works by making readers feel tired of the argument before they’ve even considered the evidence.
