C.J. Cherryh is the pen name of Carolyn Janice Cherry, an American science fiction and fantasy author born on September 1, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri. Cherryh grew up in a family of educators and was an avid reader from an early age. She attended the University of Oklahoma, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Latin in 1964, and later earned a Master of Arts in Classics from Johns Hopkins University in 1965.
