Air America was the CIA's private airline operating in Laos during the Vietnam War, running anything and everything from soldiers to foodstuffs for local villagers. After losing his pilot's license, Billy Covington is recruited into it, and ends up in the middle of a bunch of lunatic pilots, gun-running by his friend Gene Ryack, and opium smuggling by his own superiors.

"Air America" is a 1990 American action/comedy movie directed by Roger Spottiswoode. The movie's plot revolves around a group of misfit pilots and their experiences flying for a covert and uneven CIA operation called Air America based in Laos during the Vietnam War. Starring Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr., it is based on Christopher Robbins's 1979 non-fiction book, also entitled "Air America".
