Movie Overview
"Anatomy" (German: Anatomie) is a 2000 German horror movie directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, starring Franka Potente. The movie takes its motivation from the Heidelberg University's Anatomical Institute, where body parts from executed Nazi political opposition members were kept for student assessment till 1997.

Plot Summary
The movie focuses on a young, skilled medical student, Paula Henning (Franka Potente), who gets the distinguished possibility to study at Heidelberg University's Medical school, an opportunity that both her grandpa and daddy had prior to her. Her dad is a renowned surgeon, however with a stretched relationship, Paula wants to distinguish herself through her work.

While on her way to school, she comes across a scenario needing medical attention to a male on a train. Despite offering emergency treatment, the guy reportedly passes away at the medical facility. Paula is surprised to see the male's body being utilized in her anatomy class a couple of days later. She notifications a matchstick, which she had utilized in her attempt to conserve the man on the train, inside the body throughout class, triggering a chilling mystery.

Mysteries Unravel
Her desire to reveal the truth leads her to discover a secret society, the Anti-Hippocratic Society, understood for performing human experimentations. This group was produced centuries earlier by a collection of the university's leading trainees and physicians. Their grisly creed is an altered version of the Hippocratic Oath: "Do not ask what you might do for medication, however what medication can do for you".

Paula becomes more immersed in the secret as her friends and coworkers start vanishing. She finds disturbing images of bodies marked for surgical treatment that are supposedly the society's next victims and recognizes that she may be on their list too.

Climax and Resolution
Her last discovery is that her professor and some classmates belong to the society and are plotting to use her for their experiments. A chase through the university's old dissection spaces takes place as Paula unwinds the deep-rooted corruption within the institution and fights for her life.

She handles to eliminate the head teacher, Hein, and his assistant during a battle for life and death. In the end, the society is exposed, and Paula survives, albeit shocked and disappointed about the medical occupation's ethics she held in high esteem.

Critical Reception
"Anatomy" was an industrial success in Germany and got combined to positive evaluations globally. Despite some criticisms of the film's scary clichés, its mix of medical thriller and slasher elements showed attractive, making it among the more successful German scary movies. The efficiency of Franka Potente, fresh off her breakthrough in "Run Lola Run", was commonly applauded. The film's success led to a follow up, "Anatomy 2", released in 2003.
