When mankind beams a radio signal into space, a reply comes from ‘Planet G’, in the form of several alien crafts that splash down in the waters off Hawaii. Lieutenant Alex Hopper is a weapons officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones, part of an international naval coalition which becomes the world's last hope for survival as they engage the hostile alien force of unimaginable strength. While taking on the invaders, Hopper must also try to live up to the potential that his brother, and his fiancée's father—an Admiral—expect of him.

Introduction
"Battleship" is a 2012 American military sci-fi action movie based upon the parlor game of the very same name. Directed by Peter Berg, the film stars a skilled ensemble cast which includes Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, and Tadanobu Asano. The film integrates elements of warfare, love and extraterrestrial life.

Plot Summary
The movie begins with Lieutenant Alex Hopper, a slacker who is forced by his more disciplined and accomplished bro, Stone, to join the Navy to focus his energies into worthwhile pursuits. Soon, his romantic interest towards Samantha defines his determination to make a good impression on her father, Admiral Shane. Meanwhile, NASA's Beacon Project, in an attempt to interact with extraterrestrial life, sends a radio signal to Planet G, known for its similarity to Earth in the "Goldilocks Zone".

Alien Invasion
The signal from earth reaches the alien scout ships, triggering them to dispatch 5 alien spacecraft to find the source of the signal. 3 of them crash-land in the world while one lands on Hong Kong, triggering destruction, and the remaining one collides with a NASA satellite and lands in the waters off Hawaii, resulting in a forcefield around the Hawaiian Islands.

The Naval War
Hopper, his bro Stone, Raikes (Rihanna), and the crew aboard the USS John Paul Jones, along with Japanese Captain Nagata on fight ship Myoko, take part in dispute with the alien invaders. Stone is killed during the encounter, and Hopper takes command of the ship, utilizing non-traditional and bold methods to counter-attack the alien 'Regents'.

The Battle and Resolution
Fierce marine warfare ensues, the aliens show tough at first, however their vulnerability to sunshine is found as a significant weak point. The team of the John Paul Jones is able to sink 2 of the alien warships. Nevertheless, their ship also gets ruined. Hopper and the surviving team members board the mothballed battleship USS Missouri and manage to destroy the remaining alien vessel. The human beings then introduce an attack on the alien mothership, with Samantha and a retired army veteran getting rid of the barriers to send a signal to the military about the aliens' weak point.

Last Scene and Climax
With newly found hope, Hopper leads his team in an inspirational charge against the alien commander. The crew is cornered however draws the alien commander into a trap by the sun's increasing light, eliminating it. The stiff Admiral Shane acknowledges Hopper's bravery and management, ending their distinctions. Finally, another alien spacecraft is revealed responding to the original signal, establishing the stage for potential follows up.

Conclusion
"Battleship" provides an interesting mix of earthbound marine warfare against an upcoming alien force. It informs the tale of redemption and guts under extreme scenarios and brotherhood among comrades. Although not without its flaws, "Battleship" is a fun and thrilling watch, worth every minute for fans of the science fiction action category.
