A man obsessed with conspiracy theories becomes a target after one of his theories turns out to be true. Unfortunately, in order to save himself, he has to figure out which theory it is.

Introduction
"Conspiracy Theory" is a 1997 American political thriller film directed by Richard Donner. The film stars Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts, revolving around a taxi driver who thinks varied world events are linked and managed by a single, overarching conspiracy. The plot advances into the expedition of these theories, resulting in unforeseen twists and turns.

Plot
Mel Gibson depicts Jerry Fletcher, a cab driver in New York City consumed by conspiracy theories, which he shows his clients. His theories discover no listener except for Alice Sutton (Julia Roberts), a lawyer working for the US Department of Justice. Regardless of her preliminary shock, Sutton finds herself tangled in Fletcher's claims when one of his hypotheses turns out to be real.

Among Fletcher's many theories is about "Project MK-Ultra", a real CIA mind control experiment in the 1950s-1960s. Jerry thinks he is a subject of this project due to his recurring nightmares and blackouts. One day, after exposing his latest theory about a plot against a political figure, he is caught and tortured by Dr. Jonas (Patrick Stewart), confirming his suspicions.

Dispute and Resolution
As soon as Jerry directs his concentrate on Dr. Jonas, his memories start to recuperate. He keeps in mind being a former assassin set under 'Project MK-Ultra' and having trained fellow assassins. He also recalls a task to eliminate Alice's father, a judge investigating the MK-Ultra job. Nevertheless, Jerry subconsciously withstood his programming and killed Alice's daddy's assassin instead.

Although identified with paranoia, his claims show credible, forcing Alice to investigate. She gets a first-hand taste of Jerry's world of conspiracies when she's targeted too. With the much-needed help of Jerry, they manage to prevent Dr. Jonas and his group of assassins and escape.

Climax and Conclusion
The wrapping up of the storyline happens on a night with a full moon, where Jerry competes with his former instructor, Dr. Jonas. In a gripping encounter, Jerry successfully resists his programmed conditioning to murder Alice and instead kills Jonas. Both Jerry and Alice move towards safety, but not before setting off a set-up surge that eliminates Jonas' operations.

Post the traumatic experience, Jerry is put in a psychological organization to recuperate from his extreme trauma. In the meantime, Alice finds evidence that verifies Jerry's conspiracy about her daddy's death. With all the chips forming, she goes to Jerry, assuring to stick with him as he has problem with his recovery.

Final Thoughts
"Conspiracy Theory" is a thrilling mix of action, thriller, and psychological drama that keeps the audience on the edge of their seat. The plot uses the concept that not all conspiracy theories are mere theories, some may be terrifying realities. With remarkably extreme efficiencies by Gibson and Roberts, the movie gradually unfolds a dark world of political conspiracies and their prey. The motion picture takes the audience on a roller coaster of thriller and surprises, painting a plain picture of fear, power play, and undeterred faith.
