Overview
"Detention" is an American horror satire movie launched in 2010, directed by Joseph Kahn and co-written by Kahn and Mark Palermo. The plot focuses on a group of high school trainees who should endure their final year when they discover that a serial killer, looking like a horror movie villain, begins killing students in ruthlessly innovative methods.

Plot
The story begins with Taylor Fisher, a popular student and self-described compulsive fan of the slasher film series, 'Cinderhella.' In spite of her own belief that she would be the last victim in a real-life Cinderhella scenario, she is quickly eliminated by a costumed enemy in her bed room. The motion picture then shifts focus to Riley Jones, a depressed nerdy woman who has an unrequited love for her best friend, Clapton Davis. He, however, is in love with cheerleader and vegan activist Ione Foster.

As Riley struggles with adolescent issues and the dispute in between her feelings for Clapton and her relationship with him, the role of the Cinderhella-obsessed killer quickly becomes critical. The students at Grizzly Lake must discover who the killer is while also contending with time-traveling, body-swapping, and a rampaging packed animal mascot called Slaughterchops.

Cast
Principal cast members include Shanley Caswell as Riley Jones, Josh Hutcherson as Clapton Davis, Spencer Locke as Ione Foster, and Parker Bagley as Billy Nolan, to name a few. The film also features Dane Cook in the role of Principal Verge.

Genre Mixing and Style
"Detention" is a hard-to-categorize movie that integrates elements from various categories such as scary, funny, teen love, science fiction, and time travel. The film non-stop throws pop culture recommendations and parodies, similar to motion pictures and television shows from the late '80s and '90s, keeping audiences on their toes. It is kept in mind for its distinct mix of subversive humor, meta-commentary, and utter self-awareness, which brings the story forward with its sheer momentum.

Important Reception
"Detention" received usually blended actions from critics. Some praised its defiantly unconventional approach, gushing energy, and pop-culture commentary while others found its mad design and plot congestion confusing and less effective. Despite differing receptions, it established a cult following for many years for its distinct maximalist cinematic experience.

To sum up, the 2010 movie "Detention" is a roller coaster of genre-splicing zaniness, occupied with high school cliches and unreasonable abnormalities-- an effort to show the turmoil and confusion of modern adolescence while providing a hard-hitting satire of the horror category and pop culture at big. It's just as likely to make you question what will take place next as it is to make you question what you've already seen.
