Introduction
"Final Flight of the Osiris" is a 2003 computer-animated short film directed by Andy Jones and composed by the Wachowskis. The movie belongs to "The Animatrix" series, which is a collection of shorts set in the universe of "The Matrix" franchise. Notable for its glossy photo-realistic animation, the movie serves as a narrative bridge between the initial "The Matrix" film and its very first follow up, "The Matrix Reloaded".

Property
The story focuses on the crew of the hovercraft Osiris, the protagonist ship. The ship's captain, Thaddeus, and his second-in-command, Jue, are taken part in a virtual truth sparring session that is charged with erotic undertones. Their training program is quickly disrupted when they are alerted to a squadron of Sentinels on an excavation mission in the real world.

Discovery of the Machines
As the crew investigates, they make a traumatic discovery: the makers have drilled into the surface and are mere hours from reaching Zion, the last recognized human city. Understanding the gravity of the circumstance, the crew of the Osiris realizes they need to alert the inhabitants of Zion about the approaching attack.

In a bold sequence, the Osiris maneuvers skillfully to prevent detection while closely observing the maker's operations. They witness a vast army of Sentinels and understand that a direct attack on Zion by the devices is coming sooner than anyone expected.

The Decision
With the fate of humankind at stake, the crew needs to make a speedy choice. They can not run the risk of a direct conflict with the machines, as the Osiris is no match for the entire army of Sentinels. Rather, they opt for a desperate gambit: to dispatch a message to Zion with the information of the machines' strategies.

Last Stand and the Message
Jue volunteers for the risky objective of taking the message into the Matrix to communicate it to the operatives in Zion. Despite the heavy Sentinel presence, the Osiris charges into battle to ensure Jue can drop into a communications building and deliver the essential warning.

The crew engages the Sentinels, showcasing the Osiris's weapons and the team's valiance. Nevertheless, the Sentinels are many, and the Osiris is eventually overwhelmed. Unfortunately, the team members compromise themselves to purchase Jue the time she requires.

Jue's Mission in the Matrix
Inside the Matrix, Jue's athleticism and combat skills are on full display as she races against time to drop a physical plan including the message in a mail drop. With Sentinels tearing the ship apart in the real life, Jue handles to achieve her job minutes before she is detached due to the destruction of the Osiris.

Conclusion
"Final Flight of the Osiris" concludes with the haunting picture of Jue's lifeless body in the real world, juxtaposed with the effectively sent out message in the Matrix. The short movie serves as a poignant beginning to "The Matrix Reloaded", directly causing the opening scenes where the caution triggers a conference of the captains of the remaining hovercraft fleet.

"Bittersweet" best explains the ending. The sacrifice of the Osiris team guarantees that Zion receives a vital warning about the devices' plans, although at the cost of their own lives. In this way, "Final Flight of the Osiris" embodies the themes of guts, sacrifice, and the endless fight versus injustice that are main to "The Matrix" universe.
