Overview
"Folks!" is a 1992 American dark comedy-drama movie directed by Ted Kotcheff and starring Tom Selleck. The film, structured on styles of household ties and the inherent turmoil that comes with them, checks out the life of a successful Chicago stockbroker (played by Selleck), whose stagnated life takes an unexpected turn when he is hired to care for his senior moms and dads.

Plot

Selleck plays Jon Aldrich, a high-powered stockbroker delighting in the fruits of his incessant labor in the horse galloping, money-spinning city of Chicago. The bubble of his cherished world bursts when he gets the terrible news about his parents. His daddy, Harry (Don Ameche), is in the sophisticated phases of Alzheimer's disease while his mother, Mildred (Anne Jackson), is nearly blind and psychologically unstable.

Jon hurries to their help, just to discover that the once nurturing moms and dads of his childhood have actually become a pair of unforeseeable, problematic kids triggering non-stop accidents with their impulsive and often unsafe actions. Jon's misfortunate series continues when his daddy causes an accident that leads to Jon severing tendons in his hand, which contributes to him losing his job. Regardless of being uninsured, Harry's mishaps also cause installing medical costs and Jon's financial destroy.

Conflict and Resolution
The film encapsulates around how Jon, under the weight of his moms and dads' care and financial distress, falls under a deep hole of anguish. Due to quirky laws in Jon's moms and dads' home state of Florida, he can't just walk away from the situation either. Confronted with the concern of duty, Jon considers relieving his problems via questionable means-- considering on driving his parents to their death to gather the life insurance which would get him out of the monetary pit.

The humor in "Folks!" is primarily rooted in the sheer relentlessness of Jon's miseries. However, in spite of the comical undertone, the film's tonal shifts to more severe subjects, like the advancing dementia of Jon's daddy, are subtle yet powerful.

In the end, Jon makes an ethical choice and sacrifices his individual aspirations for his parents. Jon's more youthful brother Arnie (Kevin Pollak) comes forward with financial support and assists eliminate Jon's financial obligation, which includes a touch of levity and intend to the otherwise bleak plot.
