The film establishes drastically as Eleanor shows up in Boston only to find that the little lady, Mackenzie Walsh, is now a widowed, single mom of 2 daughters with a meticulously stressful job at a regional news station. Mackenzie, played by Isla Fisher, has completely lost her belief in 'happily-ever-afters' considering that the unfortunate death of her husband. She is completely immersed in her work and family duties, leaving her rather disenchanted and unwilling to open up to the concept of joy.

Eleanor desperately attempts to spray some fairy dust and perform a miracle to make Mackenzie's life pleased once again but soon recognizes that the conventional fairy tale option might not be what Mackenzie and her daughters need. In a modern twist, Eleanor learns that a 'happily ever after' does not always include huge gowns and princes, rather it's about cherishing liked ones and discovering happiness in daily life.

Ending
In the climax of the movie, Eleanor successfully redefines the idea of Godmothering by helping Mackenzie come out of her shell, regain self-confidence, and discover joy within herself and her family. Mackenzie finds out to value her life and starts to live more totally, which in turn allows her daughters to flourish as well.
