The movie is a follow up to the 2011 movie "Goon", with the main plot focusing on Doug "The Thug" Glatt, a bruising enforcer for a minor league hockey group, who must deal with the existential crisis of his potentially ending sports profession and the approaching obligations of fathership.
Main Characters and the ClimaxDoug Glatt (Seann William Scott), is now the captain of the Halifax Highlanders minor hockey league team. Following a ruthless defeat in a match against their competitors, where Glatt gets severely injured by the young and callous enforcer Anders Cain (Wyatt Russell), he is forced to consider retirement. Eva (Alison Pill), Doug's other half, is pregnant and she demands Doug retiring for the safety of their future family.
Doug's Journey to RedemptionDespite quiting his sports career, Doug trains in secret with his old rival Ross "The Boss" Rhea (Liev Schreiber), who was also forced to retire after too many battles. The movie brings out the contrast with Rhea's landing as a factory employee and part-time bouncer, having a hard time to discover function outside the rink. On the other hand, the Highlanders, now captained by Cain, are on a downward spiral. When the owner of the Highlanders decides to make Cain the team captain officially, Doug can't bear seeing his old group in such state.
The Final ActDoug returns to the Highlanders, accepting a trade of positions with Cain. Regardless of the initial misfortune from his wife, she sees Doug's strength and lastly supports him in his first video game back. Doug's return enhances team spirits, setting off an upward shift in their games leading to the finals with the rival team now led by Cain. In the final conflict, Doug and Cain square off in a harsh battle however instead of defeating Cain, Doug chooses a greater course, showing Cain regard and passing on the torch.
Conclusion"Goon: Last of the Enforcers" portrays the challenges of expert athletes dealing with major profession modifications and personal duties. All the while, it continues to shed light on the reality of professional athletes' life beyond the rink and the repercussions of a violent, high-risk sports career on their individual lives.
