A POW in World War II is put to work in a Munich zoo, looking after an Asian elephant. The zoo is bombed by the Americans and the director of the zoo decides it is not safe for his Asian elephant Lucy to remain there. So he sends Brooks to safety with Lucy. They escape and go on the run in order to get to Switzerland.

However, Brooks handles to keep Lucy calm and convinces Kurt that the best way to reach Innsbruck is through the alps on foot.

Escaping the Enemy
While their journey continues, a sarcastic American POW, Packy (Michael J. Pollard) who has actually duplicitously escaped, joins them. The trio embarks on an escape strategy to Switzerland. When Kurt reveals their plans, Packy murders him, stimulating a riot where Brooks gets shot however manages to kill Packy.

Arrival in Switzerland
Despite Brooks' injury, the duo eventually handles to reach the Swiss border however are pursued by an entire German squad led by the ruthless Colonel von Haller (Wolfgang Preiss).
