Three backpackers head to a Slovakian city that promises to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaits them.

Movie Summary
"Hostel" is a 2005 American scary film directed and produced by Eli Roth. The dark touristic horror story includes a frightening plot set in Eastern Europe, with a script populated by sadistic characters that victimize the innocence and interest of young backpackers.

Plot
The film follows two Americans, Paxton (Jay Hernandez) and Josh (Derek Richardson), alongside their Icelandic buddy, Oli, throughout their backpacking journey across Europe after their college graduation. In Amsterdam, they find out about a Slovakian city's hostel rumored to be filled with lovely women. Eager for a wistful adventure, they decide to check out the unidentified city.

Upon reaching the notorious hostel, they discover it filled with lovely ladies, like Natalya and Svetlana, and feel ecstatic about their choice. However, their satisfaction journey slowly morphs into a horrifying headache when Oli goes missing out on inexplicably. They find that the hostel is a nightmarish establishment where rich people pay to abuse and eliminate travelers.

Twists and Turns
In search of Oli, they come across a mutilated corpse, frighteningly, hanging upside down. When Josh goes missing next, Paxton recognizes that they're knotted in a deadly trap. His efforts to reach the cops are prevented as the regional authorities are in cahoots with the hostel. Stressing, Paxton discovers himself face-to-face with a German man, who reveals that he has actually paid to torture him.

Terrifying Climax
In the graphic climax, Paxton in some way leaves the cooling abuse chamber, just to be surpassed by bad guys in his course. In the middle of the turmoil, he releases Kana, a Japanese lady about to be scalped by her predator. Together, they knock out an accomplice of the hostels and take his car for liberty.

Resolution
In their roadway to security, they experience the gang responsible for their capture. An auto accident leaves Kana facially damaged, and she chooses to commit suicide by jumping in front of a truck. This distraction enables Paxton to escape. He ultimately slips onto a train to Berlin. The film ends with Paxton exacting a ruthless revenge on the Dutch entrepreneur, who first presented them to the hostel and set them on their traumatic journey.

Themes
"Hostel" is a gruesome and stunning horror movie concentrated on the theme of 'dark tourism,' a facility including the severe lengths fortunate people are willing to go to satisfy their sickening desires. It highlights the pressing human fascination with harming others, highlighting crucial subtexts on privilege, hedonism and ruthlessness.

Crucial Reception
In spite of its gruesome story and violent images, the movie was an industrial success, while eliciting mixed reviews from critics. Critics were polarized over Roth's relentless exploration of violence and Western understandings of Eastern Europe. Some praised it for pushing the boundaries of scary cinema, while others slammed it for its graphic material and absence of considerable storytelling.

Overall, Eli Roth's "Hostel" is hailed as a pinnacle in the 'torture-porn' sub-genre of scary, which introduced brand-new depths of sadism to modern movie theater.
