The movie follows the story of Maximo, a once-wealthy and attractive older man who should adjust to a brand-new way of life after being dumped by his rich better half for a younger male. The film opens with Maximo's youth, where he dreams of prospering and marrying a rich female. He comes from a humble background, but as a boy, he marries a wealthy older female, Peggy (Renée Taylor), who ruins him with everything he might want.

Quick forward 25 years later, Maximo (Eugenio Derbez) is still delighting in the extravagant lifestyle funded by his better half. Nevertheless, his world turns upside down when Peggy discards him for a more youthful guy. Entrusted absolutely nothing, Maximo has no option however to return to his modest roots and move in with his separated sibling, Sara (Salma Hayek), and her boy Hugo (Raphael Alejandro) in Los Angeles.

Determined to restore his wealth, Maximo comes up with a plan to seduce a widowed billionaire, Celeste Birch (Raquel Welch). In order to do so, he begins for more information about Celeste. As Maximo spends more time with his sibling and nephew, he begins to reconnect with them and slowly begins to discover the importance of family and real love. He assists Hugo pursue his crush at school by providing him with tips on winning her heart, while also getting closer to his sister Sara.

Meanwhile, Maximo's strategy to seduce Celeste is not going as efficiently as he hoped. He realizes that he needs to become her driver in order to get closer to her. Additionally, Celeste's individual assistant, Quincy (Rob Riggle), is suspicious of Maximo's objectives and continuously tries to undermine his efforts.

During a household getaway, Maximo, Sara, and Hugo face Celeste and her grand son, Arden (Mckenna Grace), at a frozen yogurt shop. Maximo uses the chance to bond with Arden, and Celeste begins to heat up to him. She welcomes Maximo and his household to her birthday party, where Maximo, Rick, and Quincy take part in a competitors to win Celeste's affections.

At the celebration, Sara challenges Maximo about his ulterior intentions and makes him recognize that his pursuit for wealth has blinded him to the love he has in front of him. During a genuine speech to Celeste, Maximo confesses that he at first wanted to seduce her for her wealth, but he now realizes the significance of love and family. Celeste, moved by his sincerity and development, forgives him.

Maximo chooses to give up on his quest for a wealthy lady and instead concentrates on restoring his relationship with his sibling and nephew. He begins working at a regular task, teaching other men how to be "Latin fans" without the deceitful objectives he once had.

The movie ends with Maximo, Sara, Hugo, and their loved ones coming together for a celebration, signifying the significance of love, family, and being real to one's self.
