Introduction
"Miss Marple: The Mirror Crack 'd from Side to Side" is a 1992 British tv film directed by Norman Stone, based on the 1962 Agatha Christie book of the same name. The movie becomes part of the BBC's "Miss Marple" series, and stars Joan Hickson as the eponymous amateur detective, Miss Jane Marple. In this installment, Miss Marple examines a murder that takes place during a fundraising celebration held at a recently purchased manor house. The case unfolds with an all-star cast of characters, tricks of the past, and intriguing twists and turns.

The Setting
The story is embeded in England in the early 1960s. Miss Marple resides in the quiet village of St. Mary Mead, known for its meddlesome inhabitants and the regular intrusion of murder cases. The mystical death happens at Gossington Hall, a reputed English mansion just recently purchased by an attractive American film couple, Jason Rudd (played by Barry Newman) and Marina Gregg (played by Claire Bloom). The murder takes place throughout the couple's first public appearance in the town, when they host a fundraiser for a regional health center.

The Incident
The event is gone to by all of the village's most appreciated people who aspire to get a peek of the well-known film stars. The regional professional photographer, Margot Bence (played by Judy Cornwell), chooses to take a photograph of Marina and brings over Heather Badcock (played by Glynis Barber), a local female who idolizes Marina. While speaking to her idol, Heather accidentally spills her drink on Marina and goes back to the table to get a clean glass, discussing that she had seen Marina at the start of her profession.

Returning with a fresh beverage, Heather sips some of it and falls dead on the area. It's quickly revealed that her beverage was poisoned with potassium cyanide. Inspector Craddock (played by John Castle) is assigned to investigate the homicide, however Miss Marple, not able to resist a puzzle, starts to check out the case too.

The Investigation
As the investigation progresses, various suspects are analyzed, but none seem to have any obvious intention to target Heather. Among the characters of interest is Lola Brewster (played by Glynis Barber), Marina's aggressive competitor and a starlet who is also a guest at the party. There is also Jason's assistant, Hailey Preston (played by Lucy Gutteridge), who is seen remaining around the beverage table. However, no solid proof is discovered linking these people to the murder.

As secrets are uncovered, Miss Marple begins to suspect that Heather was not the intended target, and the killer aimed to toxin Marina instead. With the intention now clear, Miss Marple sets out to determine who amongst Marina's large circle of friends, household, and associates might have desired her dead.

The Climax and Resolution
Miss Marple starts to decipher the threads, and through her observations and intuition, she discovers that the secret to the murder lies in the past. Miss Marple remembers Heather mentioning her encounter with Marina early in her career, and she recognizes that this occasion from the past is the essential to resolving the murder.

The option to the puzzle depends on an event where Heather, not recognizing she was infectious with German Measles, exposed a pregnant Marina to the infection, triggering her to bring to life a seriously disabled child. Filled with regret and driven to avenge her kid, Marina decides to commit suicide with the poisoned drink. Nevertheless, in an awful twist of fate, Heather beverages from the poisoned glass before Marina can do so.
