Original Title: OSS 117 : Le Caire, nid d'espions

Secret agent OSS 117 foils Nazis, beds local beauties, and brings peace to the Middle East.

Overview
"OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies" is a French funny spy film released in 2006, directed by Michel Hazanavicius and featuring Jean Dujardin as the lead character, Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath, alias OSS 117. The movie is a parody of the spy category, specifically making a comedy of the timeless James Bond film series.

Setting and Plot
The movie is embeded in 1955, a time of geopolitical transition with the Suez Canal crisis looming in the Middle East. The protagonist of the movie, Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath is a conceited, naïve and politically inaccurate secret representative, who is sent out to Cairo to examine the suspicious disappearance of his long-time good friend and fellow agent, Jack Jefferson.

The Investigation
In Cairo, OSS 117 is presented to Larmina El Akmar Betouche, a beautiful and clever assistant to the missing Jack Jefferson. She becomes a guide and shows OSS 117 around the city. Despite his condescending attitudes and mistakes, OSS 117 starts his questions into the sudden disappearance of his pal. Through numerous misadventures, OSS 117 investigates activists of various political affinities, spiritual figures, British and Soviet spies, and a chicken farming company, which all lead him deep into a complicated web of worldwide intrigue.

Unfolding of Events
As the movie advances, a number of comical series unfold as OSS 117's bumbling and anachronistic mistakes make him a target for different factions in the city. In spite of this, he manages to discover a deceptive operation that weaponizes chickens, being run by a group of ex-Nazis. His friend Jack Jefferson had discovered this operation and was gotten rid of to keep it a secret.

Climax and Conclusion
Although most of the film represents OSS 117 as inexperienced and unconcerned, his luck deviates for the better in the later parts of the plot. Revealing the hidden secrets and programs, OSS 117 ultimately determines the offenders behind Jack Jefferson's disappearance and suppresses them. In a climactic scene, OSS 117 hinders the atrocious plans of the ex-Nazis and conserves the day. He falls for Larmina, and she reciprocates his sensations in spite of his quirks.

Significance and Reception
"OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies" permitted the pairing of Jean Dujardin and director Michel Hazanavicius to gain popularity. The film is cleverly folded with satire, parodying Cold War politics and the attitudes of the time, especially the Western view of Islamic culture and Orientalism. The movie was mainly well-received and lauded for its innovative humor, smart referrals, and stylish cinematography. It was successful enough to spawn sequels, thereby producing a popular brand-new avatar for the superspy in French movie theater.
