Original Title: OSS 117 : Alerte rouge en Afrique noire

1981. Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath, aka OSS 117, is back. For this new mission - more delicate, more dangerous and more torrid than ever - he is forced to team up with a young new colleague, the promising OSS 1001.

Title: OSS 117: From Africa with Love
"OSS 117: From Africa with Love" is a 2021 French funny spy film directed by Nicolas Bedos. It is the 3rd instalment in the OSS 117 movie series and functions Jean Dujardin repeating his role as the hilariously inept spy, Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath, likewise known as OSS 117, and Fatou N'Diaye playing the lead female character, OSS 1001.

The Plot
The story marked a definite departure from the previous 2 films with a set up in the mid-1980s, fifteen years after the events in Rio. OSS 117 is sent on an objective to Kenya, at a time when previous nests were looking for independence and the world was altering drastically. Ironically, he's tasked with liberating the French Burkina Faso embassy that's been attacked by a warlord troop.

In a setting of political intrigue, racial tensions and old-world chauvinism, OSS 117 discovers himself handling intricacies he stops working to understand. Besides combating rebels and dodging conspiracies, he is also coupled with a more youthful and more skilled agent, OSS 1001 (N'Diaye), who exposes him to various viewpoints and relentlessly questions his outdated beliefs.

Main Characters
Jean Dujardin delivers an extraordinary performance as the unaware secret agent stuck in the past. His character moves between numerous disguises, flaunting his range, while embodying the ignorant and offensive European mindset of the time.

Fatou N'Diaye, as OSS 1001 offers an outstanding counterpoint to OSS 117. She is smart, strong and capable, plainly juxtaposed versus OSS 117's clumsiness and ignorance. N'Diaye includes depth to her character, portraying both a strong, independent female and a thoughtful individual whose suitables often encounter those of OSS 117.

Humour and Satire
The film uses the classic James Bond-style plot and integrates provocative humour against the background of crucial social issues. Like its predecessors, it handles delicate subjects through comedy, satirising stereotypes and exposing them by highlighting OSS 117's obliviousness.

While the film mocks French manifest destiny by revealing the protagonist's absence of sensibility, it likewise talks about the conceit and prejudice widespread during that age. The film utilizes absurd situations to convey its satirical narrative, pushing OSS 117 to work along with a Black female and browse through a world that is increasingly incomprehensible to him.

Decision
"OSS 117: From Africa with Love" may seem like a departure from the previous entries in the series, however, it uses its special design of humour and satire to deliver an amusing film with extensive social commentary. Director Nicolas Bedos' ability to weave comedy and crucial messages into the DNA of the movie, combined with Dujardin's unmatchable charm and N'Diaye's sterling performance, makes this a remarkable addition to the OSS 117 series.
