Plot Summary
"Passchendaele" is a 2008 war drama movie composed, co-produced, directed, and starred in by Paul Gross. The function centers on the experiences and hardships of a war veteran, and its name is stemmed from the Battle of Passchendaele which happened throughout World War I.

Gross represents the character of Sergeant Michael Dunne, a Canadian war veteran experiencing shell shock, now described Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). After being hurt in battle in France, Dunne is transferred back home and appointed to a recruitment office in Calgary. There he satisfies Sarah Mann, played by Caroline Dhavernas, a nurse still grieving her fallen soldier bro and dealing with her alcoholic daddy. A romantic affair blossoms in between Dunne and Sarah.

Despite his disorders, Dunne tries to prevent Sarah's asthmatic younger sibling, David Mann, from enlisting in the army. Caught in a web of lies and driven by hopes to prove his value to Dunne and Sarah, David chooses to employ and is sent to combat in the notoriously deadly Battle of Passchendaele.

The Battle of Passchendaele
The Battle of Passchendaele, also called the Third Battle of Ypres, is depicted through a few of the grittiest scenes in the film. On realizing David's circumstance, Dunne due to his ethical obligation and love for Sarah, re-enlists and returns to the frontline to attempt to save David.

Climax And Conclusion
The final series of the film revolve around the bloody events of the battle, where Dunne manages to discover David badly wounded in the disputed area of No Man's Land. Unable to carry him back to their lines, Dunne chooses to stay with him. The gruesome nature of World War I is personified through the death of David, and the end of the war is signalled with Dunne hanging on, significantly wounded however alive.
