Plot Summary
The movie focuses around the character of Gene Ralston (Scott Glenn), a previous Seattle Police Department detective who is forced to go back to his past when he discovers the mystical death of his ex-wife, who drowned under suspicious situations. He chooses to concentrate on her murder, encouraged that she was killed by her existing hubby, the callous business person, Don Falcone (Anthony LaPaglia).

Meanwhile, a young and enthusiastic Public Defender, Tory Bass (Lara Flynn Boyle), gets her first murder case. Oddly enough, her client is accused of the very exact same murder that Ralston is examining. Bass deals with uphill battles with the law system as she delves much deeper into the case while navigating workplace politics and an unapologetically sexist workplace.

Main Characters
Gene Ralston, depicted by Scott Glenn, is a high-spirited and zealous previous investigator who takes matters into his own hands after finding out about his ex-wife's awful fate. He is figured out to learn what really happened, and his character is a mix of sadness, vengeance, and obstinacy. Glenn's efficiency shines as he shows his character's ruthless pursuit of justice.

On the other hand, Tory Bass, played by Lara Flynn Boyle, is an aggressive and courageous Public Defender who is figured out to please her interest and fix the case. Flynn Boyle convincingly represents the evolution of her character from being ambitious and idealistic to ending up being nuanced and reasonable.

Don Falcone, played by Anthony LaPaglia, is the purported bad guy of the movie. Falcone is a typical effective business person devoid of empathy. LaPaglia's representation of Falcone is brilliantly cooling, genuinely recording the essence of a remorseless antagonist.
