Plot Summary

While in the throes of her affair with F. Scott, Louise gets reacquainted with her high school friend Missy (played by Marcia Gay Harden), who was also Scott's ex-girlfriend. Parallel to this main story, Louise's complicated relationship with her ex-husband Peter (played by Gabriel Byrne) likewise unfolds. Peter is a recuperating alcoholic who still holds onto the hope of reviving their love.

Throughout the motion picture, scenes of Peter and Louise's therapy sessions expose their unresolved feelings and previous relationship characteristics. Furthermore, tensions emerge when Louse's more youthful sibling Sammy (played by Paul Rudd) gets engaged and she discovers it hard to share his happiness.

Resolution and Conclusion
In the climax, F. Scott discovers a painting of the initial Scott in Louise's house, which sparks a confrontation causing their separation. However, Louise realizes that she loves F. Scott and expresses her feelings, who reciprocates and they reconcile.
