They plan a royal christening where they invite 3 excellent fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. As the 3 fairies each grant the princess a gift, Maleficent, a wicked fairy not invited to the event, gatecrashes the christening. Merryweather, who is yet to give her present, modifies menstruation utilizing her own magic, mentioning that rather of dying, Aurora would fall under a deep sleep, only to be awakened by real love's kiss. To secure Aurora, the fairies blend her away to a secret location in the woods, where she grows up as Briar Rose, unaware of her genuine identity.

Unbeknownst to them both, Phillip is currently betrothed to Aurora, with the encounter satisfying the original betrothal's purpose. In the meantime, Maleficent discovers Aurora's location and, in spite of the fairies' efforts to protect her, succeeds in fulfilling menstruation. Phillip, who now knows Aurora as Briar Rose, is captured by Maleficent, who reveals that the woman he fell in love with and his betrothed are one and the same.
