A special-ops team is dispatched to fight supernatural beings that have taken over a European city.

Film Overview
"Spectral" is a 2016 American military science fiction movie directed by Nic Mathieu. The plot focuses on a group of unique forces and a researcher who team up to combat supernatural entities that are killing in a war-torn Eastern Europe. The film explores the idea of battling opponents that are-- literally and metaphorically-- ghosts of war. It stars James Badge Dale, Emily Mortimer, Max Martini, and Bruce Greenwood.

Plot Summary
The film opens in a war-torn Eastern European city where US soldiers are engaged in fight, only to be inexplicably killed by an undetectable enemy. The military hires Dr. Mark Clyne, a scientist from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), to investigate. He's entrusted with determining the entities killing soldiers in this civil war.

Upon arrival, Dr. Clyne finds that these entities, dubbed "spectrals" due to their ghost-like look on infrared cams, can physical contact and can kill with a touch. He thinks the spectrals are a type of sophisticated, active camouflage weapon, casting eerie shape shapes.

Examination and Conflict
Clyne, in addition to a released team of Delta Force soldiers, encounters these spectrals. The encounters grow progressively lethal, leading to the loss of several team members. Dr. Clyne customizes their surveillance tech to create weapons efficient in aesthetically spotting and fighting these spectrals. The objective develops from investigation into survival as the entities appear increasingly hostile.

Discovery and Resolution
Clyne deduces these entities are not intentionally destructive, but rather the byproduct of a speculative energy source trapped in a physical type. The team discovers an abandoned power plant, where a rogue researcher was performing experiments. The spectrals stemmed as a swarm of nanomachines powered by an energy source, implied to provide sustainable power for the city but unintentionally trapped in our measurement.

In the climax, Clyne devises a technique to destabilize the energy source, effectively removing the spectrals. The group infiltrates the power plant, successfully bypasses the system, and eradicates the spectral hazard. The surviving soldiers return house, leaving the war-torn city with a possibility of recovery.

Style and Reception
"Spectral" distinctively blends military and sci-fi genres, inviting audiences to ponder the nature of worry, the unknown, and the disastrous results of war. It highlights the intrigue of unexplainable phenomena and the lengths mankind will go to make it through.

The film received blended reviews, with some applauding its unique results and principle, while others criticizing it for doing not have depth in character advancement. Nevertheless, in the realm of military sci-fi thrillers, "Spectral" stands as a solid, action-packed movie.
