Introduction
"The After" is a 2014, post-apocalyptic sci-fi tv series developed and produced by Chris Carter, best known for his deal with the tv series "The X-Files". The tv pilot was launched by Amazon Studios which planned a complete season to follow. Nevertheless, regardless of the initial buzz, Amazon decided not to move on with the series, leaving audiences with a single, intriguing episode.

Plot Summary
The story unfolds in the middle of the mayhem of a broken world, presenting a group of eight strangers who find themselves stuck together in an uninhabited parking area in Los Angeles amidst a violent tumult. As the electricity and communication in the city mysteriously cut off, they soon recognize that the disaster isn't limited to LA but is an international apocalypse.

The characters consist of a strong-minded Irish girl (Sharon Lawrence), a French actress (Camille de Pazzis), an escapee found guilty (Aldis Hodge), an old lady with dementia (Carol Roscoe), an expert clown (Lou Martini Jr.), a Miami businessman (J.R. Bourne), a Japanese guy who speaks little English (Kiko Kiko), and an LAPD police (Andrew Howard). None of them have anything in common and their diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences result in a series of disagreements and disputes.

Development and Subplot
These eight complete strangers slowly learn more about each other and recognize that they require to work together if they want to understand the strange situations and survive. One peculiar pattern that they recognize appears to be a connection in between each one of them and a cornucopia of minor coincidences. The number '8' begins to emerge as a recur's theme throughout the series, recommending a capacity, profound significance that specifically unites their fate.

Besides enduring the armageddon, they likewise deal with an existential horror in finding frightening animals hiding shadows, adding an additional layer of fear to their situation. Additionally, their interactions with other survivors, who were delighting in violent activities and lawlessness, highlight the collapse of social order and human morality in a post-apocalyptic world.

Ending and Final Thoughts
Though the tv pilot doesn't get tied up neatly as the series was all of a sudden stopped, "The After" succeeded in creating a suspenseful environment, meaning a greater plot. The episode concluded with more anxiousness than resolve; a monster prowling in the city's shadows, the universal symbol of '8', the secret of the non-operational city - all suggested a deeper, detailed narrative waiting to be explored.

The cast performance was strong and the diverse set of characters included depth. The combination of thriller, mystery and potent human interactions made this one-off tv pilot an interesting watch. Regrettably, the cancellation of the series left most of the secrets unanswered and triggered some viewer disappointment. In spite of this, "The After" can still attract and provoke thought in those who delight in post-apocalyptic or science fiction categories.
