It is a touching exploration of the lead character's quest for identity, acceptance, and love. The movie's title is a loose English translation of the Vietnamese word for Vietnam ("Nuoc Dep" - gorgeous country) and works as a metaphor for the protagonist's yearning for belonging in a world where he feels outcast. The movie uses a riveting and mentally charged testament to the human spirit's strength in the face of adversity. The strength of Binh's character exemplifies the trials of immigrants and the struggles of identity that mixed-race individuals often experience.
