Introduction
"The Changeling" is a psychological haunted home horror film directed by Peter Medak. Released in 1974, the movie stars George C. Scott as John Russell and Trish Van Devere as Claire Norman, with a chilling screenplay by William Gray and Diana Maddox. Not to be confused with the 2008 Clint Eastwood-directed film, this "Changeling" informs the scary tale of a man who becomes haunted by a homicidal ghost looking for justice.

Plot Summary
The movie begins with a severe disaster. John Russell, a popular music author and teacher, saw the tragic death of his spouse and daughter in an awful car accident. To escape his traumatizing past, Russell transfers to Seattle and rents out an unnerving old mansion, owned by the Historical Preservation Society. Claire Norman, a member of the society, assists him in settling.

Quickly after moving into the historic mansion, Russell starts to experience unexplainably spooky events, involving loud banging noises, and spectral visitations from a kid figure. These disruptive incidents constantly occur at 6 am, supposedly the same hour when a kid from the previous household passed away decades back.

Ghost Revelation
Driven by a rising interest, Russell launches an investigation into the house's history. He gets guidance from the mansion's slamming doors and taps, which lead him to a covert room and a sealed-off attic area. Upon unsealing the attic door, John discovers the wheelchair of the departed child and a music box playing a tune strangely comparable to one he had recently composed.

Search for Answers
Russell embarks on a stressful look for responses. He holds a séance in which he discovers the ghost - a kid named Joseph Carmichael. Joseph was murdered by his daddy to change him with another much healthier child to ensure the family got a considerable inheritance. The ghost's mission was for the fact to be revealed.

Climax and Resolution
Toward completion of the film, Russell unwinds the identity of the imposter: a powerful senator called Richard Carmichael. Russell is able to find the remains of the real Joseph Carmichael and present them to the senator, requiring him to challenge the sins of his past.

In a fit of rage, the child's spirit seeks revenge, resulting in the complete damage of the mansion and the death of the fraudulent senator. Significantly, Russell manages to escape the disaster unharmed. The movie ends on a threatening note, as Russell hears the ghostly kid's voice replay in a recording from the séance.

Conclusion
"The Changeling" is a nerve-jangling movie that contributes significantly to the haunted home sub-genre, not simply relying on dive terrifies for its horror, however instead building an environment of dread and frightening psychological terror. George C. Scott gives a remarkable efficiency as John Russell, the mourning male who unsuspectingly ends up being the driver to the reclaiming of justice for a long-deceased innocent soul. With its solid instructions, engaging story, and well-crafted suspense, this 1974 release is a must-watch for traditional scary fans.
