Introduction
"The Duel" is a 2016 American Western drama movie directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith and written by Matt Cook. The movie stars Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Alice Braga, and Emory Cohen. It occurs in a small frontier town that's governed by a charming preacher, Abraham Brant, played by Harrelson.

Plot
The film takes us back to the time of the Texas killing fields throughout the late 19th century. The plot begins with a rather weird however intriguing premise - a battle between an eight-year-old young boy, Abe Brant, and a Mexican slave, which pushes the boy into a life of violence and criminal activity.

Quick forward to the regular life of Texas Ranger David Kingston, played by Liam Hemsworth. David is assigned to an objective which includes examining series of murders and disappearances in the town of Mount Hermon which straddles the Rio Grande. The mayor of the town none aside from Abraham Brant, the very same boy we view as the "bully" in the opening scene of the film. David thinks Brant, now a charismatic and enigmatic preacher, to be involved in the inexplicably vanished Mexican Americans.

Character Development
David transfers to the town, alongwith his partner Marisol, played by Alice Braga who gets charmed by Brant's spooky charisma which begins to make complex David's examination. On the other hand, David has his share of past linked with Brant. Brant had actually eliminated his father in a helter-skelter battle that we see in the beginning. The unfolding events bring David closer to unveiling the grim truth of the string of deaths, while revealing Brant's cannibalistic cult, and bringing justice.

The efficiencies of the cast are potent, with Woody Harrelson personifying a chilling yet charming villain and Hemsworth having the ability to portray his heroism and difficulties betidingly.

Conclusion
"The Duel" is a remarkable brew of suspense, vengeance, and survival. Director Kieran Darcy-Smith creates a dirty, grimy world filled with fear, intimidation, and harsh violence controlled by Brant's cult. The pulse of the story lies in the mental worry that Brant imparts in his victims, with a creative use of bible to inflict terror.

While not a standard Western, "The Duel" breaks beyond the category's standards to blend in components of thriller, excitement, and mental drama. In spite of experiencing a somewhat languid pace, the movie develops gradually towards its climax, wrapping up with an extreme last fight in between David and Brant, bringing the story full circle from the duel that opened the motion picture.

The movie uses a glaring view into a grim, distressing duration of the past-- a tale about the discovery of inhumanity and the clash in between justice and the hugger-mugger cult violence. "The Duel" successfully leaves viewers fascinated and typically on the edge of their seats with thriller, showing the extreme struggles of its hero and villain.

The movie looks into the styles of corrupted power, the misuse of religion for selfish intentions, cannibalism and unending cycle of revenge in an intensely dark tone. It includes these themes into a western backdrop to develop a cinematic experience filled with thriller, action, and an interesting story.
