A young girl, Anemone ( Mary Pickford ), who lives with her Aunt ( Ida Waterman ) is abducted by a crude family of Virginia mountain moonshiners. A fight between two of the young male relatives decides who will marry the girl. Lancer ( James Kirkwood ) is the winner and marries Anemone against her will. She is reunited some time later with her Aunt, but when she learns Lancer is in dire trouble she returns and stays by his side, realizing she had always been in love with him.

Antagonist's Downfall
As Anemone's dad understands he has shot his child, he instantly regrets his actions. The villagers, tired of his supremacy, revolt en masse against him. A villager strikes him, and he falls to a stroke, which leads to his death.

Love and Conclusion
The shot Anemone is revived by Farralone's caring care. When she gets up, she comes to know about her daddy's failure and death and is at first disheartened. Yet, realizing the severeness of his injustice and the wholehearted solace she finds in Farralone, she concerns terms with the turn of events.

The love between Farralone and Anemone blossoms even more, as they find comfort and love in each other's presence. The film ends on a high note with the villagers rejoicing their newly found freedom and the blooming romance in between Anemone and Farralone.
