The movie is notable for its distinct blend of dream, steampunk, historic, and adventure categories. The plot focuses on iconic fictional characters from the Victorian era, forming a group of knowledgeable people to hinder a plot to ignite a world war.

Introduction of Characters and Premise
The film is embeded in an alternate Victorian era where special people with special abilities and legends connected to their names exist. Allan Quatermain, played by Sean Connery, a legendary adventurer, is one of them. Quatermain is reluctantly hired by the British federal government following a string of catastrophic attacks that have links to fantastical aspects beyond the ability of typical guys. The Empire is in dire requirement of heroes and thus, the amazing league is formed. Besides Quatermain, the group consists of Dorian Gray (Stuart Townsend), Mina Harker (Peta Wilson), Tom Sawyer (Shane West), Captain Nemo (Naseeruddin Shah), Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde (Jason Flemyng), and an Invisible Man named Rodney Skinner (Tony Curran).

The Villain and His Plans
The villain, understood only as "The Fantom", is plotting a world war. It turns out that The Fantom has been taking and replicating the unique abilities of each league member to create a new superhuman army, capable of overpowering any military force. Armed with innovative technology and faked assassinations, he's not only raising stress among significant world powers but also tempting the league into his trap.

Disputes and Climax
Conflict arises among the league members. Dorian Gray, who is revealed to be a traitor, betrays Quatermain and his team to The Fantom, nearly costing them their lives and the objective. Perfectly blending action and character development, the film sees the group conquering their distinctions, individual battles, and obstacles to remove their common opponent. In an adrenaline-pumping climax, they manage to stop The Fantom, a disguised Professor James Moriarty (Richard Roxburgh), Sherlock Holmes' enemy, from starting the world war and trade the advanced weapons to the highest bidder.

Unsettled Ending and Final Thoughts
Despite all appearing lost with Quatermain's presumed death, the film ends on an uncertain note by suggesting Connery's character may still live. This was meant to set the phase for a follow up, but due to the film's underwhelming efficiency and mixed evaluations at package workplace, no more sequels were produced.

"The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", despite stopping working to make a great effect at package workplace and among critics, stays an unique cinematic experience. The characters' interesting complexity and the movie's innovative approach to Victorian-themed action, experience, and sci-fi elements make it a noteworthy entry in Hollywood's early 2000's period.
