After a violent storm, a dense cloud of mist envelops a small Maine town, trapping artist David Drayton and his five-year-old son in a local grocery store with other people. They soon discover that the mist conceals deadly horrors that threaten their lives, and worse, their sanity.

Introduction
"The Mist" is a 2007 American science-fiction horror movie directed by Frank Darabont. It is based upon the 1980 novella of the same name by Stephen King. The movie features a star ensemble cast including Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden, Andre Braugher, Toby Jones, and others. Its main plot revolves around a group of people in a small town in Maine who seek haven from a mysterious mist enveloped around them, filled with dreadful and deadly creatures.

Plot of the Film
"The Mist" begins with a violent thunderstorm hitting a small town in Maine, triggering a power outage. The following morning, a thick and unusual mist creeps into the town. The lead character, David Drayton (played by Thomas Jane), and his son Billy, head to the local supermarket to stockpile on materials, where they are joined by a number of others from their town.

Suddenly, a bloodied man encounters the store, yelling about harmful, hidden creatures prowling in the mist. Panic occurs, and the supermarket's clients barricade themselves inside. Soon enough, they discover the presence of monstrous animals concealed within the thick haze - insect-like predators, enormous tentacled monsters and deadly birds, a few of which handle to penetrate the grocery store, leading to scary fatalities.

Internal Problems and Turmoil
Whilst facing the external danger, the group likewise faces internal conflicts. A religious zealot, Mrs. Carmody (played by Marcia Gay Harden) analyzes the mist as God's punishment, quickly collecting a group of fans. Her radical beliefs and requires human sacrifice to appease God develops worry and division among the survivors, causing chaos and violence.

The Climactic Exit
David, along with a little group consisting of his boy Billy, school instructor Amanda, 2 store employees, and an older townsperson, choose to escape. Fearing the wear and tear of their scenario and the growing influence of Mrs. Carmody, they venture into the mist to find refuge in a lorry, forced to eliminate Mrs. Carmody while doing so.

The Ending
Leaving the grocery store, David's group drives as far as the fuel takes them. With no end of the mist or beasts in sight, they decide to end their lives to escape a gruesome fate, with David entrusted with the heartbreaking responsibility of killing his own boy and the others. Nevertheless, left alone and considering suicide, David hears a vehicle technique. To his disbelief, he sees it's the military clearing the mist and rescuing survivors. The awareness dawns that they were simply moments far from rescue, leaving David shrieking in anguish at his premature choice.

Conclusion
'The Mist' is a chilling and heartbreaking movie about survival, human nature, and existential scary. The movie's end is considered one of the darkest and most infamous endings in movie theater history. Frank Darabont's direction makes it a climatic horror thriller with deep psychological undertones, clarifying mob mindset and the scaries of unreasoned fear.
