The Movie Background:
"Latest Thing: Carrie 2" is a 1999 American supernatural scary movie, directed by Katt Shea. It is a sequel to the 1976 motion picture "Carrie", adapted from Stephen King's eponymous book.

Plot Summary:
The story centers on Rachel Lang, a high school misfit with hidden telekinetic powers, comparable to Carrie White from the original film. Carrie 2 starts after the suicide of Rachel's only pal, Lisa. Police find that Lisa's sweetheart, a popular football gamer, had actually discarded her after seducing her to win points in a sex video game he and his fellow jock friends played.

Main Characters Development:
Rachel, started as an introverted and quiet woman, who was living with foster parents due to her mother's mental issues. Depicted by Emily Bergl, Rachel turns into a cruel figure after the terrible death of her buddy, Lisa. This is when she starts to find her telekinetic capabilities, comparable to those of Carrie White, hence the movie name.

Jesse Ryan, a popular high school football gamer who stands out from his pals with his sense of morality, falls in love with Rachel. Played by Jason London, Jesse's relationship with Rachel agitates both their peers and triggers Rachel's mystical powers.

Final Act:
Bullying from her classmates, betrayal from Jesse, integrated with the discovery of the repellent game which led to her buddy's suicide, presses Rachel to her breaking point throughout a house party. In her rage, she unleashes her telekinetic power, triggering an intense massacre.

Jesse survives and visits Rachel in a psychiatric health center, in a dream he has later, only to find that she's enduring through pure hatred. He's then rudely awoken by banging noise against his bed room window, and surprise, a tattoo similar to Rachel's seen on a lady's arm, signifying her telekinetic powers.

Overall Theme & Reception:
"The Rage: Carrie 2" maintains the theme of agony from endless torture and the eventual break out of retribution that was a hallmark of the original motion picture "Carrie". It checks out themes of adolescent cruelty, preconception around mental health, sexual politics, and provides harsh critique of the in-group, out-group high school dynamics.

However, the movie did not replicate the recognition of its predecessor, garnering unfavorable evaluations from critics due to viewed uninspired story-building and weak efficiencies. The use of graphics and special results was applauded, however this was insufficient to protect it from overall poor reception and average ticket office returns. However, it serves as a nostalgic throwback to late 90s scary, and for many years, has actually brought in a cult following.
