To evade this, he turns to a tactic and charges Soraya with extramarital relations, which might result in her being stoned to death according to Islamic Sharia law.

Ali conspires with the local mullah and another man, encouraging them to testify versus Soraya. A mock trial is set up where Soraya is wrongly accused of infidelity.
