It begins with the Russo household and Harper going out on a trip to Italy, to fulfill their loved ones who they have lost touch with.

The Magical Dilemma
In "The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex", Alex Russo attempts to relinquish her bad side after she is constantly scolded for using magic to fix her issues. She casts a spell, which mistakenly divides her into 2 versions of herself - the "excellent" Alex and the "wicked" Alex. The Evil Alex then teams up with a former Wizard called Dominic (Beau Mirchoff), who wants to harness the Russo family's magic to take over the world.

Dominic's Evil Plan
Dominic attempts to catch the great AJ, while encouraging the wicked one to assist him with his plans to dominate humankind. Just when evil Alex concurs and uses magic to bring the Leaning Tower of Pisa back to its upright position, bring in widespread attention, Dominic locks her in a tower to keep her out of intervening in his wicked plan.

Intertwining Intensity and Humour
Torn in between conserving her household or being free from her wicked equivalent, Alex must face an impressive fight versus herself. The reasonably light-hearted and amusing tone of the series takes on a more intense tone in the movie, although humour remains by means of the character Harper played by Jennifer Stone and mischievous Max of Jake T. Austin.

The Climax Battle
In the climax of the film, there's a thrilling face-off between the good Alex, her family and friends, and the wicked pair of Dominic and the evil Alex. Alex's partner, Mason (Gregg Sulkin), who was become a canine for the majority of the story, saves the real Alex and she successfully reabsorbs her wicked half, making her whole again. She wipes the minds of the crowds seeing the spectacle while returning the Tower of Pisa to its trademark tilt. The film ends with the family coming together, valuing their bond more than ever.

"The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex" showcases another wonderful adventure of the Russo household. The Disney Channel special effectively preserves the charm and magic of the original series, while providing it a slightly darker twist.
