They are so focused on their own success that they can not see the absurdity of their own actions. They are so concentrated on their own objectives that they can not see the humor in their own lives. They are so focused on their own ambitions that they can not see the irony in their own decisions. Simply put, they are so focused on themselves that they can not see the ridiculousness of their own lives, only the ridiculousness of others. This quote is a suggestion to all of us to take an action back and look at our own lives with a funny bone and irony.
