"One brave deed makes no hero"

John Greenleaf Whittier's quote "One brave deed makes no hero" is a suggestion that courage and bravery are not enough to make somebody a hero. A hero is somebody who is appreciated for their nerve, strength, and noble qualities. A single brave deed does not make somebody a hero, as it takes more than one act of guts to be thought about a hero. It takes a life time of generous acts and commitment to a cause to be considered a hero. A hero is someone who wants to put their own life at risk to assist others, and who wants to make sacrifices for the higher good. A hero is somebody who wants to exceed and beyond what is expected of them, and who wants to defend what is right. A hero is someone who is willing to put their own needs aside in order to assist others. A single brave deed may be exceptional, however it does not make someone a hero.
