"Ours is an excessively conscious age. We know so much, we feel so little"

In this quote, David Herbert Lawrence is commenting on the state of society in his time. He recommends that we live in an age where people are excessively mindful and educated about the world around them. We have access to huge quantities of details and innovation that permit us to understand and examine whatever in excellent detail. However, in spite of this abundance of knowledge, Lawrence argues that we have lost touch with our feelings and our ability to genuinely feel. We are so taken in with knowing and comprehending that we have become detached from our own feelings and those of others. This quote acts as a reminder to not let our extreme consciousness overshadow our ability to understand and connect with others on a deeper level.
