Brooks, a Jewish comedian shaped by the 20th century’s worst propaganda machine, didn’t treat Hitler as untouchable evil in The Producers; he treated him as a tasteless punchline - precisely to deny him mythic grandeur. There’s risk in that approach, and Brooks knows it: satire can normalize as easily as it can detonate. But his intent is clear. Don’t meet fascist spectacle with earnest counter-spectacle. Shrink it. Make it look small, needy, ridiculous. Once the strongman is reduced to a clown, fear loses its leading role.
