This quote by S. J. Perelman suggests that we all have a single personality that we express in various methods. We are unable to alter our characters, however we can select how we express them. We can pick to be kind and generous, or we can choose to be self-centered and unkind. We can select to be outgoing and social, or we can choose to be shy and shy. We can select to be positive and favorable, or we can select to be cynical and negative. Eventually, we are what we pick to be. We can select to express our personality in a positive or negative method, but we can not alter who we are. We can just wring out our personality like a dishtowel and reveal it in various methods.
