"To see and listen to the wicked is already the beginning of wickedness"

Confucius is cautioning that simply remaining in the presence of wicked or immoral people, and listening to their ideas and actions, can affect and corrupt one's own moral code. He thinks that being around unfavorable impacts can lead an individual down a path of misdeed. Hence, he stresses the importance of surrounding oneself with virtuous and ethical people.
