"We did very little improvisation on camera, and once in a while we did"
- Peter Tork
About this Quote
Peter Tork's quote suggests that improvisation was not a huge part of the recording procedure. Instead, the majority of the recording was finished with a script and the stars staying with it. This is not to say that improvisation was totally missing from the shooting process. On occasion, the stars would be permitted to improvise a line or more, and even an entire scene. This could be done to add a little bit of spontaneity to the scene, or to give the actors a chance to express themselves in a more creative way. Improvisation can be a fantastic tool for actors, as it allows them to explore their characters in a more natural method. However, it is necessary to bear in mind that improvisation should be utilized sparingly, as it can easily eliminate from the total quality of the movie.
