T. S. Eliot’s evocative line, “You are the music while the music lasts,” merges identity and experience, suggesting a profound unity between the individual and the fleeting moments of life. The boundary between observer and event dissolves; rather than merely listening to music as something external, the self becomes inseparably woven into the song’s very fabric. Life’s experiences, like music, are ephemeral, arising and fading with the passage of time, yet within those brief spans we embody their rhythm, harmony, and emotion.

Eliot’s metaphor highlights transience. Music, by nature, resists permanence, it exists only as long as it is played and heard, thereafter living on as memory or echo.
