April Catherine Glaspie was born on April 26, 1942, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She is an American diplomat who is best known for her role in the Gulf War situation. Her daddy, Edwin Harold Glaspie, was an American rock hound, while her mom, Catherine James, was an artist.

Glaspie matured in Vancouver and also participated in the University of British Columbia, where she made a Bachelor of Arts level in Russian Language as well as Literature in 1963. She later got a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University in 1966.

In 1966, Glaspie began her career in the United States Foreign Service. She served in various settings at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, from 1967 to 1970. She subsequently worked at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, where she served as the replacement chief of objective from 1985 to 1989.

In July 1990, Glaspie was assigned as the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq by President George H. W. Bush. She showed up in Baghdad on August 1, 1990, just days before Iraq got into Kuwait.
