SummaryEl Lissitzky (born as Lazar Markovich Lissitzky in Pochinok, Russian Empire, died in Moscow, USSR) was a famous Artist from Russia, who lived between November 23, 1890 and December 30, 1941.BiographyLazar Markovich Lissitzky was a Russian artist of the jew descent working as a designer, photographer, typographer, and architect. He was a prominent figure in the Russian avant-garde, and developed Suprematism with his mentor, Kazimir Malevich, and compiled and designed several art shows and propaganda works for the former Soviet Union. His work served as the important influences of the Bauhaus and Constructivism, and the production techniques and stylistic tools that he developed came to have great influence on the 1900s graphic design.El Lissitzky was based on the idea that the artist can work as an actor for change which he later compiled as "das zielbewußte Schaffen" (the purposeful creation). Lissitzky began his career as an illustrator of Jewish children's books in Yiddish, in an attempt to spread the Jewish culture in Russia. During this period the country was undergoing major changes and abolished including its anti-Semitic laws. Already at the age of 15 he began teaching, which he would continue throughout his life. Over the years he taught at various schools, from different fields and from several different positions. Along with Malevich, he led the suprematistiska group UNOVIS (УНОВИС), he developed his own suprematistiska variant resulted in a series of works he called proline and in 1921 he took the job as a Russian cultural attaché in Weimar, Germany, where he came to influence key people within the Bauhaus and De Stijl. Later he focused on developing and changing typography, exhibition design, photomontage, and book design, and for this work he attracted much attention internationally.
