Portia de Rossi, was born in Horsham, Victoria, Australia, on January 31, 1973.
She was born as
Amanda Lee Rogers, but later changed her name to Portia, a reference to the character Portia in Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice".
De Rossi grew up in Geelong, Australia, where she attended Geelong Grammar School. Her father, Barry Rogers, was a businessman, and her mother, Margaret Rogers, was a medical receptionist.
From an early age, de Rossi knew she wanted to be an actress. When she was 15, she landed her first professional acting gig, appearing in a TV commercial for a local pizza restaurant.
After finishing high school, de Rossi moved to Melbourne and began auditioning for TV and film roles. Her breakthrough came in 1994 when she landed a regular role on the Australian drama series "Sirens".
